Compass Pot sump
joshuatree writes "After talking to Chris, John and Phil, Simon and I had a look into Compass to see what the sump looked like for a future dive. Phil showed us the way and with 5x 5-foot drain rods for company we made the tortuous crawl to the sump. We got 3 and a half rods into the water before encountering a blockage - could be an up-dip (hooray) a bend (!) or a constriction (!!!). Getting all of my body in there feet-first, it was cosy, but not too tight, so a further investigation with a bottle is in order. This is definitely a trip for the skinny conoisseur, but the formations in the 1 decent chamber are fantastic, with some straws several feet in length! I thought Chris and John were certifiable before this trip, but now I know for sure!"

Digs: Robin Pot - The End?
The squeeze was eventually enlarged by Chris and John
and they entered a chamber, unfortunately they couldn't see anything for the
fumes!

Digs: New Goyden Nidderdale
digscaves writes "Last night a joint WRPC/BSD digging team dug out the remaining boulders blocking the way on.
Sterling work was carried out by Russ Brookes who was in the middle of the choke whilst dropping the last of the boulders that could be coaxed down the shaft.
The new pot consists of a climb down through an unstable boulder choke into a small chamber (void) formed by collapse of the choke. The roof and walls are boulders and mud of dubious stability. The floor of the chamber now opens directly onto the top of a mined shaft which drops into South Avens in New Goyden. The shaft has abundant remains of miners shot holes on both sides.
Chris Fox descended into the known cave before carefully returning. The next few trips here will be to install some shoring to secure the choke. Until this is complete, anyone visiting should avoid touching the walls or roof in the chamber as that may bring the whole lot down.
It would appear from this that New Goyden is yet another cave first explored by T'owd man. Chris

Digs: New Goyden Pot Nidderdale
digscaves writes "Having been driven out of Wharfedale by a return to near normal water levels a few trips into Black Sheep Diggers land were undertaken.
During the first(Sat 12th May), to radiolocate an aven in the caravan trail series of New Goyden Pot. The aven was found a short distance from the expected place. Whilst waiting for the return of the divers, an examination of the local geology looking for faults and old mine workings was undertaken. A likely looking spot was prodded at by Chris Fox. After 40 minutes a draughting hole was uncovered. This was then left until the following Thursday. More work was then carried out until a large rock reduced the size of the workings. Finding ourselves dimensionally challenged we adjourned to the pub. A return was planned over the joint WRPC/BSD weekend.(19/20 May 07)
A small team of BSD and WRPC did put in an appearance on Sat and having treated the offending boulder to 3 rounds of caps work continued apace. The hole is now eight foot deep and even has a solid wall, only one though. More work to follow probably this Thursday afternoon/evening and maybe Sat depending how it looks/goes. "
