Jack, Pete Benn, Phil Parker
I’d come across an old sketch survey of the Manchester Bypass from my CRO days, so it seemed a nice idea to re-visit it and get to Stop Pot... Quickly down the pitch and the “interesting” drop into Broadway. Round to the ledge on the right just before Spout Hall and, survey in hand, into the low bit, the crawly bit, the climby bit and the crawly bit to the fixed ladder. Which takes longer and generates more heat and sweat than writing/reading about it does. As does the crawly bit and the climby bit to the greasy climb out of Brown and Smelly Chamber. 2 muddy bits of string dangled down, but we augmented these with a ladder once one of us was up. Time was now running on and Pete needed to get back to give Gen the car, so after the briefest look at the less than inviting continuation we returned. And the “interesting” drop (now “interesting” climb) out of Broadway gave some moments of entertainment. A couple of hours.
