Stream Passage –
Wades (pre-rigged): August 27, 2016
Present: Faye, Denis, Bob
Met at Clapham, hot sunny day, elected to carry our tackle
and change at the winch meet. On our way met up with Patrick, Steve and Thomas
Warren – three generation of cavers hopefully as Steve and Patrick love young
Thomas to follow in their footsteps. On reaching GG we logged in our trip,
received our number bands and set off for Stream Passage Pot. A classic trip
with large rift pitches and water.
Order of descent: Bob, Faye, Dennis. Being
back marker, I could appreciate the size of the rift passage descent with
lights form Faye and Bob. Below, confusion working the route through to Sand
Caverns. Bob’s recue cry ‘Follow me” – up and down, back and forth for several
minutes, and ‘Yes’ Sand Caverns recognised.
Steady progress to South East Pot:
I started up and Bob and Faye had a natter while waiting for my cry of ‘Rope
free’. Once up I usually use Horrocks-Stearn crawl and exit via Bar Pot so for
myself to exit via Wade’s was virgin ground which is always exciting. Following
ropes and single passage till choice of passages told me to turn back to last
pitch and wait for Bob and Faye, they both knowing the exit route . On reaching
pitch Bob was just exiting it. H e led off and I followed.
Choice of passages
where I turned round was less then ten metres from final pitch hidden around
corner. All out met Steve Thomas and Patrick again on the way home. We logged
out of winch camp and set off back for Clapham. Faye and Bob stopped for a
catch-up and I set off home. Great trip.
